Meet David

Rippey native and farmer David Weaver announced his candidacy for State Representative to serve Iowa House District 47. The seat was previously held by Boone Republican Chip Baltimore.
​
Weaver graduated from East Greene High School in 1988 and went on to Central College. He later returned to his roots in Boone and Greene Counties to farm the same land his grandparents farmed. Weaver comes from a long line of Greene County public servants, including his mother, Mary, who served as President of the East Greene School Board and his grandfather, Lee Dorris, a longtime Greene County Supervisor.

Weaver is married to his wife, Emily, and they have one daughter. David is a member of the Iowa Farm Bureau. He is involved with the Iowa Soybean Association, regularly testing tile outlets for water quality, as well as testing corn stalks for nitrate levels. David is also a member of Practical Farmers of Iowa; he typically plants 20% of his acres to cover crops.

Raise Wages for Working Families & Restore Collective Bargaining
I've seen firsthand how hard families in my community work to make ends meet. These are families that have two wage earners and are active in their communities. Iowans who work hard at their jobs should not have to struggle like this. My first priority will be to return collective bargaining powers to teachers and other union members.
Restore Iowa's Educational System
Iowa used to be ranked as a top state for student achievement. Due to shortsighted decisions regarding the state budget, local school districts have not received the support they need to educate Iowa's children. We must prioritize funding for education for Iowans of all ages.
Fix Our Broken Health Care
It's clear health care has not been a priority at the State Legislature with the privatization of Medicaid, the opioid crisis hurting small towns, and a lack of mental health treatment anywhere. I want to sit down with Democrats and Republicans alike to work for a solution that helps all of us.
